There are friends, and then there are Friends. Han Lin is struggling with the death of his long time friend, Keith, two days before the funeral. When a visit by Keith’s ghost takes them down their past, they are forced to confront their complex relationship and grieve with fresh eyes. Long Weekend exists where what could be attempts to remember what it is.

This was my favourite show of the night—heartfelt, imaginative, daring and also wonderfully specific in its portrait of what it’s like to be a young in today’s Singapore…Somehow it all flows together smoothly, thanks in no small part to Mitchell Fang’s directorial skills and the versatile ensemble…It’s a surreal little play, but the production team’s managed to make it feel real.

Even though it may sound like the typical campy stage plays we get in Singapore every now and then, we can assure you that this piece of work begs to differ. Appealing to the depths of the heart while distilling humour, Chia’s writing goes beyond mere appearances and dramatised expressions. Kudos to the cast for embodying the text well and doing the balancing act of playing things up, and letting them settle with the audience.
